Founded in 2014, the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys is an impartial third-party attorney rating organization comprised of 13 divisions consisting of Bankruptcy, Criminal, DUI/DWI, Personal Injury, Family Law, Litigation, Lawsuits & Disputes, Immigration, Workers’ Compensation, Employment & Labor Law, Estate Planning, Military Law, Elder Law and Social Security & Disability Law Division.
The American Institute’s Family Law Division recognizes excellence of practitioners in the field. We compile an exclusive list of the “10 Best” Attorneys for each state. Some states depending on size and population density may be broken up into City or Region to be more applicable to potential new clients who utilize this site when looking for an Attorney. The “10 Best” is a prestigious honor for the attorney as each attorney must:
- Be formally nominated by the Institute, client, and/or a fellow attorney;
- Have attained the highest degree of professional achievement in his or her field of law; and
- Having done so with an impeccable Client Satisfaction rating.
Many attorneys can achieve high degrees of success but this is often times at the expense or satisfaction of the most important person in the case: the client. American Institute’s Family Law Division looks for attorneys that have achieved unparalleled success but most importantly have done so for the benefit of their client. Very few attorneys can do so and the organization recognizes this significant achievement.
The American Institute’s rating system helps clients throughout the United States make educated decisions when it comes to choosing their attorney. Membership is an exclusive honor and extended only to those selected few who have reached the top of their profession while doing so with the client’s satisfaction being of the most paramount importance.

Avvo create the rating using a model that considers information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Any information that affects the Avvo Rating is visible in an attorney’s profile. Avvo does not provide a numerical rating for profiles that have not been claimed by that attorney.
Attorneys always have the opportunity to add information to their profiles, and those attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

For more than 130 years, Martindale-Hubbell has been evaluating attorneys for their strong legal ability and high ethical standards through a Peer Review Rating system. Prior to the 1887 edition of Martindale’s American Law Directory, which was the first publication to provide such ratings to attorneys, there was no way of truly knowing if the lawyer you were considering to do business with was trustworthy, ethical, or skilled in the legal field.
Today, Martindale-Hubbell continues to provide verified ratings for attorneys based not only on their legal ability and ethical standards as judged by their peers, but also based on reviews from their clients.
