Don’t Worry; We’ve Got You Covered

Divorcing your spouse does not mean that you will become destitute or that you will be financially ruined. The law in New York State provides mechanisms to protect you and ensure that you and your children have the resources to move on to a happier, healthier, more fulfilled life.

What Am I Entitled To?

Every divorce and family law case is truly unique. No two couples have exactly the same home life, upbringing, assets, property and attitude. Every person approaches their divorce with different needs, expectations and disposition to negotiate and compromise. All of these factors play a part in the divorce process and, ultimately, in the divorce settlement.

New York State Sets Guidelines

New York State, however, has set some standard guidelines Long Island courts use to determine the main areas of most divorce settlements. The three main areas are:

You Are Free to Make Your Own Agreement

While the state sets the guidelines, you and your spouse are also free to make your own agreements that work for your unique circumstances outside of those guidelines.

We will cover the main aspects of what the law provides individually so that you have an idea of the minimum you can expect to receive or pay. Click an image below to learn more about that aspect.

I called to make an appointment for a consultation to discuss a mediated divorce, the office was fantastic with getting me a prompt appointment. When going in all my questions were asked and I left feeling comfortable in my decision to move forward in using the Hornberger/Verbitsky office. Despite a pandemic going on the office still worked diligently to get my papers filed and my divorce complete in a timely manner. Highly recommend!
